Serving Board 001

Sold

This piece of Elm wood was obtained from Turku city parks. It was planted after Turku great fire in 1827 to prevent similar disasters from happening. Elm is particularly attractive for it's beautifull colors of deeb brown core and white sapwod. This single piece of wood had naturally occurring cracks and voids due to drying shrinkage which cannot be avoided. These spaces were filled with black coloured epoxy to preserve the functionality and unity of the board.

Story

We used elm wood that had been sawn into planks and dried in a barn for several years. We selected suitable pieces featuring live edges, knots, and beautiful grain patterns. The pieces were dried, milled flat, and sanded smooth, then treated with Rubio Monocoat Pure, which renders the surface water-repellent and durable.
