PUUPAPAT

Story

Every piece begins with the wood.

Puupapat makes one-of-a-kind objects from solid wood in Finland. We work with the wood rather than against it.

A long live-edge piece on hairpin legs with a wooden sculpture, in a sunlit hallway

01

Nature has already done much of the design.

A tree spends decades making its grain. Knots mark where branches once grew. Cracks and edges record how the wood dried and what it lived through. None of this is a defect to be removed. It is the material’s own drawing.

Our work is to reveal it. We choose each blank for what it already is, and let that decide what it becomes: a table, a board, or something we did not plan at all.

02

One piece of wood, one object.

Serving boards and cutting boards are made from single pieces of wood, so the internal structure stays whole and visible. For cutting boards we use only hardwood species, because a board should last for years of daily use.

Tables are built around the slab’s own outline. A live edge stays a live edge. A knot hole stays where the tree put it.

03

No two pieces are the same.

There is only ever one of each piece. When it is sold, it stays in our archive: not for sale, but as a record and as inspiration for what could come next.

If a sold piece speaks to you, we can make something in the same spirit. It will not be identical. It will be its own piece.

What we hold to

  • Solid wood

No veneers, no imitation. What you see runs all the way through.

  • The wood decides

Grain, knots and natural edges determine the form.

  • Made to last

Durable species, honest joints and finishes that can be renewed.

  • One of each

Every piece is individual, numbered and documented.
